Amazon's Black Friday 2019 sales will bring Apple devices into the mix for the first time
As Black Friday 2019 excitement grows, the question is whether this will be the year digital sales king Amazon can usurp Walmart’s expected deals. It will also have to fight off Target’s biggest discounts and Best Buy’s smartphone blowout. Certainly, there is one area it cannot be beaten, so here is my guide to Amazon’s Black Friday 2019 headline deals and why it’s all-change this year.
Note: I am producing Black Friday previews for all the major stores as well as Apple and Samsung products. My Walmart Black Friday 2019, Target Black Friday 2019 and Best Buy Black Friday 2019 guides are live. So bookmark my page for regular updates.
For me, Amazon’s Black Friday sales last year were a letdown. While discounts on its hugely popular Amazon devices were excellent, there was little outside that to tempt users. This should all change for Black Friday 2019. First, because there are lots of new Amazon devices which should be receiving their inaugural price cuts:
Second, the regular hot sellers should drop further this year as they have aged another year:
And third, and most excitingly, Amazon now has a deal with Apple to sell new and refurbished iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, Apple Watches and more. Amazon has already offered some killer deals on all these devices during 2019 so expect a lot more, putting it in a position to challenge Best Buy’s Black Friday iPhone dominance of last year.
What I suspect will be more limited are console deals (usually reduced by circa $100) while TVs will still play in the bargain bin with a lot of low-quality models from cheap brands. Lightning Deals should provide more premium offers but, as the name implies, they are fleeting.
Black Friday Ad Release - Amazon doesn’t release a traditional print Black Friday ad scan for obvious reasons. This affords it the luxury of waiting until the last minute and I would expect (with Black Friday 2019 happening a week later this year) for that to be as late as November 20/21, giving it plenty of time to assess rivals first.
Sale Days and Times - Despite the late arrival of Black Friday this year, Amazon should once again open its Black Friday Deals Store on November 1. There are some solid deals to be had, but you won’t get the best deals until the week of Thanksgiving. Actual Black Friday doorbusters will begin on Thanksgiving Day, and prices will hold throughout the weekend into Cyber Monday.
Tip: stock of Amazon devices never sells out, so prioritise other items first.
Free Shipping - Unlike Target and Best Buy, Amazon restricts fast, free two-day shipping to Amazon Prime members or orders over $25 (Walmart is even worse). Don’t expect this to change, but do expect Amazon to offer its free Prime membership trial which you can take advantage of for the entire holiday sales season. You can quit afterwards without incurring any penalty. Amazon’s gamble is you will want to stay.
Amazon Cyber Monday - Like Black Friday, Amazon has no official Cyber Monday ad scan though you can expect a press release listing some deals on November 30. While there will be some new TVs available and possibly a refresh of console bundles, expect deals on Amazon-branded devices to remain unchanged from Black Friday.
I will be extensively tracking Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2019 deals and publishing the best offers daily, so be sure to bookmark my page.
